Kyneton coach Luke Beattie has taken the glass half-full approach to Saturday’s draw with Golden Square in the Bendigo Football League.
While disappointed that his side wasn’t able to come away with the four points, Beattie sees lots of positives in the result.
“We came together as a group on Tuesday night and talked through parts of last week’s game,” Beattie said.
“We had a really good conversation and it re-energised the side.”
In a battle of third against fourth, no team was able to get a hold on the game on Saturday and just two points separated the sides at three-quarter time.
Both sides had their chances in the final quarter.
The Tigers kicked 3.7 while Golden Square kicked 4.3. The final score, 10.11 (71)-9.17 (71).
“We were really inaccurate having six more points,” Beattie said.
“It was a real pressure game and we had opportunities to win it.
“Golden Square also had chances. All I was after was an improved effort and I certainly got that.”
Ben Weightman kicked four goals for the Tigers. Josh Govan and Rhys Magin were named the Tigers best.
The Tigers remain in fourth spot with one round remaining. If luck had gone their way they could have been in the top three – they’ve had two draws and lost three games by less then 10 points.
The draw though seals their finals spot heading into the final round. Whether they finish fourth or fifth is still to be decided.
They face second-placed Strathfieldsaye in what Beattie says will be another challenge with finals-like intensity.
“It’s one thing to get into finals, which was the initial challenge, now to win a final is the next challenge,” Beattie said.
“We really want to be able to have an impact and I think we have the group that can do that.”
Meanwhile, the Tigers’ A-grade netball side suffered a defeat at the hands of Golden Square, 80-25.
Kyneton sits ninth with one win for the season.
