Gisborne artist’s reputation flying high

A Gisborne artist has been named as a finalist in a national art competition.

William Ritchie’s oil painting Pyro will be exhibited in Caloundra, Queensland as a contender for the Holmes Acquisitive Art Prize for Excellence in Realistic Australian Bird Art.

But before the artwork makes the trip up north it is available for viewing in Mount Macedon.

The painting stars in his Feathers and Fur exhibition at The Gallery Mount Macedon, which runs from today until September 3.

A collection of the Australian wildlife artist’s paintings and drawings ranging in medium from graphite to watercolour paint are on display in the show.

Ritchie describes his body of work as “realist with a focus on detailed anatomical accuracy”.

“I always take the time to carefully observe my subjects as I believe this allows me to better capture the more subtle aspects of their behaviour, environmental setting and interactions,” he said.

Ritchie will be at The Gallery Mount Macedon to meet anyone interested in his works on Saturday, August 12, from 2-4pm.
