Plans to make the Macedon Ranges the top destination “just outside” Melbourne have been put out for community comment.
Increasing tourism in the region is the aim of Macedon Ranges council’s Draft Macedon Ranges Visitor Economy Future Directions Paper 2017-27.
Developing a strategy to make Macedon Ranges “the home of weddings and civil ceremonies” and investigating opportunities for infrastructure such as “a large internationally branded mid-range hotel” are proposed in the plan.
The council’s vision is that “the Macedon Ranges will be recognised as the #1 destination just outside of Melbourne to slow down to connect with village life and get back to nature”.
Mayor Jennifer Anderson said tourism was important to the local economy.
“We know how fantastic we are, so let’s find ways to share our beautiful part of the world with others,” she said.
Cr Anderson is encouraging residents to provide feedback on the council plan.
Comments on the draft plan are being accepted until August 14.
Tourism industry stakeholders can attend a think-tank session on Tuesday, August 1. Community drop-in sessions will be held on August 2 and 3. For details, call 5421 9616 or visit mrsc.vic.gov.au/yoursay for more information and to provide feedback online.
