It’s been years in the making, but Kyneton Community Park is open.
Three years after the formation of the Kyneton Community Park Committee, president Amy Cockroft said that what they had been able to achieve left her “heart full with pride”.
“This park is so special,” Ms Cockroft said. “A need was identified by the Kyneton community for a space like this … the community demanded a park that it deserved.”
Located in the Kyneton Botanic Gardens, the park celebrates Kyneton’s heritage and historic location.
The playspace features a ropes course, fence maze and basket swing nestled among the natural environment.
A permanent table tennis table, more picnic and barbecue facilities and toilets will be added in the coming months.
An art piece by renowned Taungurung artist Mick Harding will also be installed, along with a Welcome to Country sign.
The park is the result of an “enormous amount of planning, consultation, design work, marketing, negotiation and relationship building”, according to Macedon Ranges mayor Jennifer Anderson who spoke at the official opening last month.
