Cyclist killed in West Footscray

A woman was killed after being hit by a truck in West Footscray on Friday. The woman was crossing a service lane on Geelong Road near Bunnings when she was hit by a truck about 2.10pm. She died at the scene. No charges will be laid in regards to the incident.

Woman, kittens in fire escape

A West Footscray woman and her five pet kittens escaped after a fire broke out in their Barkly Street unit on Sunday night. It’s believed a pot left unattended on the stove sparked the blaze about 9.30pm while the woman slept. Fire crews helped the woman and her kittens. The woman was treated on scene by paramedics.

Rooming house program funded

The state government has extended funding for the Tenants Union of Victoria’s rooming house outreach program for two years. Star Weekly last week reported the program was at risk of closing when its $250,000 government grant ran out this month.

Dogs and cats survey

Hobsons Bay council is inviting residents to have their say on how dogs and cats are managed in the community. An online survey is open until July 21 at participate.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au.
