Humans are not the only locals who benefit from the work of our police.
Last week Sunbury police officers came to the rescue of Wilbur the young joey.
After receiving reports that a kangaroo had been hit by a car, Leading Senior Constable Peter Canning and Constable Helena Perkins attended the incident at the intersection of Racecourse Road and Webb Court in Sunbury.
Unfortunately, the kangaroo did not survive her injuries, but her joey was found shivering nearby.
The officers took the joey, dubbed ‘Wilbur,’ to Sunbury Police Station where he was retrieved by wildlife rescuers.
An assessment confirmed Wilbur bounced back from the collision, not sustaining any injuries. He is expected to grow to be strong and healthy.
“It’s important if people see injured wildlife that they contact Wildlife Victoria or their local police station,” Constable Perkins said.
“Without that phone call from a concerned local, little Wilbur wouldn’t have been found.”
