Sunbury Jets return to winners list

Sunbury Jets’ claimed its second win of the Big V men’s division 1 season against Keysborough Cougars on Sunday.

It was a slightly slow start for the Jets who were outscored in the first two quarters by six points, but they were no means out of the game.

The Jets defence stepped up a level in the third quarter, which was the game changer. The Jets’ restricted the Cougars to just 11 points in the third quarter, while scoring 20 themselves, to take a three point lead into the final quarter.

Having taken the lead the Jets weren’t going to give it up and produced their best scoring quarter of the game, to win 96-84.

The Jets had five players score double figures with Javari Williams leading the way with 28 points. He also had 13 rebounds to record a double-double.

The match is a rare highlight in what has been a tough season for the Jets so far.

After a late start to the presason, the Jets have struggled to gel and been on the wrong side of a couple of thrashings.

The Jets’ youth league side suffered a 75-63 loss to Coburg Giants.

Nathan Marshall top scored for the Jets with 16 points, while Nathan Baker, Brodie Townsend and Kyle Collins all scored double figures.

The Jets sit fifth on the youth league men’s division 1 ladder.
