Car buffs show and tell

John Marks’ 1953 F100 Ford Ute is his pride and joy.

He purchased it back in 2006, but didn’t have the space or time to work on it.

Over the next 10 years, Mr Marks slowly worked on its restoration.

Then, four years ago when he retired, he had the time, room and cash to finish the pet project.

“The result is pretty good,” he said. “The only problem is it just comes out on drive and cruise days … but I can manage.”

Mr Marks joined the Werribee and District Collectable Vehicle Club and is now the secretary. He and his fellow members are keen to try something new now the club is 25 years old.

“Traditionally, we go on a driving tour a couple of times a month, get to our destination and enjoy a meal or coffee,” he said. “But we want to try something else that the Hobsons Bay Men’s Shed Car Club do and have monthly meets where people bring their cars along and have a barbecue … just something for all the guys and girls who love cars to get together.”

The first meeting is scheduled for Sunday, April 30, from 9am until noon at the Cherry Street car park in Werribee.

Mr Marks said all car lovers are invited.
