Motor show rolls to Rock

Thousands of classic car and bike enthusiasts will motor through the gates at Hanging Rock next week to celebrate 30 years of the popular motor show.

Event organiser Graham Williams says the Macedon Ranges and District Motor Club classic motoring show is part of the annual Picnic at Hanging Rock event, this year on Sunday, February 12, and has become a major attraction on the Ranges’ tourism calendar.

“It’s the 30th anniversary of this great event, which sees cars of every make, vintage and style line up to showcase the strength of the classic motoring movement in Victoria,” Mr Williams said.

“The event started as a small gathering of club members on Valentine’s Day 30 years back.

“It has grown into one of the largest single days, regularly having more than 1500 vehicles on display … every marque, model and era.

“Unlike other classic shows, you are likely to see a classic VW bug parked next to a regal Rolls Royce alongside some local Aussie muscle in an early model Monaro or a Mustang.”

Gates will open at 7.30am for entrants, with general parking open from 8am, until 3pm.

Motorists are advised to follow signs and directions as they approach the reserve.

Traffic is expected to be heavy on roads from Woodend to Hanging Rock, and around the reserve on the day. Entry is $20 for cars and $5 for bikes.
