Parking properly could pay off – Council

Drivers who ignore parking restrictions in the Macedon Ranges are on notice.

Council enforcement officers will be patrolling the shire’s hot-spots for parking offences, including Mollison Street, Kyneton and Gisborne’s farmers market, in response to a rise in cars parking illegally.

The council is urging motorists to be mindful of parking restrictions and always check for sign-posted time limits, clearways and no standing areas.

Community safety manager Anne-Louise Lindner said enforcement officers patrolled the shire to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors.

The purpose of restrictions are threefold, Ms Linder said.

“They contribute to road safety for motorists and pedestrians, they provide opportunities for people with a disability to access their community safely and they enable a regular turnover of car spaces, which supports local traders,” she said.

Ms Linder said motorists using disability parking bays without a valid permit and double-parking to load vehicles would be booked.

Fines for ignoring parking restrictions vary depending on the type of infringement, but motorists run the risk of a fine of up to $155.

Council enforcement officers will patrol high density traffic areas at peak times, including market days and school drop-off and pick-up times.
