Gisborne gets its vengeance in CHBD

Gisborne took the points in the opening round division 1 grand final rematch of the Central Highlands Bowls Division on Saturday.

Looking for revenge over Kyneton Golf, which knocked them off in last season’s grand final, Gisborne had to do it the hard way before they could savour the sweetness of their win on Saturday.

Gisborne only won one of the four rinks, but the 31-17 rink win by Glenn Johnston junior proved enough for them to take out the honours on the day, 91 (12)-85 (6).

In other news, Lancefield had a big win against Trentham, which returned to the top grade. Lancefield won all four rinks, including a 20-shot win to Jeff Holmes, to come out on top, 126 (18)-67 (0).

Kyneton and Bacchus Marsh split the rinks in their opening round match. With three of the four rinks separated by seven or eight shots, an 18-shot win in the fourth rink separated the two teams, with Kyneton coming out winners with 88 (14)-77 (4).

In the other division 1 match, Woodend defeated Romsey. The two teams split the four rinks at two apiece, with Woodend winning 102 (14)-84 (4).

Macedon, Gisborne Yellow, Bacchus Marsh and Mt Cottrell were the winners in division 2.

Meanwhile, Woodend, Diggers Rest, Macedon and Trentham all won their opening round matches in division 3.
