Major upgrades to recycled water plants at Sunbury, Melton and the Macedon Ranges are in the pipeline.
Planning minister Richard Wynne last week launched Western Water’s corporate plan, which outlines $22 million in works around its region.
Major projects include the Sunbury recycled water plant upgrade, as well as upgrades to the Gisborne and Melton recycled water plants.
Works at the Sunbury plant will cut energy consumption while the greening of the Gisborne plant has already started.
The corporate plan addresses the challenges of climate change and a growing population in Western Water’s region, which has 63,500 customers.
Mr Wynne said the plan focuses on ensuring water management is incorporated into the planning of new communities, with councils, developers and planning authorities working together on projects.
“To cater for expected population growth and to ensure high-quality, safe and reliable sewer and water services across the region, Western Water is planning to invest almost $80 million in capital works projects,” Mr Wynne said.
A community engagement reference group has also been appointed, and residents are urged to have their say on what’s most important to them about their local water and sewer services.
