Gisborne, Woodend SES join forces for a recruitment drive

Members of the Gisborne and Woodend SES units are more accustomed to answering calls for help than putting one out themselves.

But the two units have joined forces for a recruitment drive, looking to replace volunteers who have left due to other commitments, changing jobs and relocation.

Woodend crew leader Kevin Morris is urging community-minded people to get along to information sessions being held in July.

“We are targeting people from all walks of life around the Macedon Ranges to join our units in operational and support roles,” he said.

Current members range from retired residents to young people – but the one constant is that they are all eager to use their emergency response skills to serve their communities.

The units regularly respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents, and also take part in community events and education programs.

Gisborne deputy controller Di Dale said training and equipment would be provided.

“Our SES volunteers continue to provide an important volunteer service to the communities of the Macedon Ranges and those that pass through its boundaries,” she said.

Information sessions will be held at the Woodend unit at 26 Urquhart Street and the Gisborne unit at 33 Robertson Street from 7.30pm on July 18.
