Gisborne puts on a late show

Gisborne came from behind against South Bendigo to record its second win of the Bendigo Football League season on Saturday.

The Bulldogs began slowly, kicking just two goals in the first half to be 25 points down at the main break. They reduced the margin to 15 at the last change before kicking four goals to one in the final quarter to win 9.7 (61)-8.10 (58).

Riley Patterson, Jake Conolan and Bryce Williamson kicked two goals apiece for the Dogs, with Patterson and Ollie Messaoudi judged best on ground.

On Sunday, against ladder leader Strathfieldsaye, Kyneton suffered its fourth loss of the season. Less than two goals separated the sides at half-time, but the Storm broke the match open with nine goals to two in the third term.

The Tigers won the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough with the Storm home by 16.12 (108)-10.11 (71). Mitch Scholard kicked four goals for the Tigers with Ben Weightman (two) the only other multiple goalscorer.

The Tigers remain fifth on the ladder, well clear of sixth place on percentage.
