The creation of a permanent megafauna exhibit, more town gatherings and a Christmas barbecue are among the ideas floated ahead of a Lancefield forum designed to provide the inspiration, skills and support to make community projects a reality.
Funded by the state government and set up in the wake of last October’s devastating Cobaw Ranges bushfire, social venture Make a Change is looking to help residents improve fire-affected communities like Lancefield, Benloch, Romsey and Baynton.
This Sunday’s Outside the Square forum is the first in a series of events that will also lead to skills training.
Make A Change Australia founder and director Karen Corr said the forum, open to people involved in clubs, social groups, schools, businesses, parents and volunteers who ‘‘want to make stuff happen’’, will include short talks and discussions.
Lancefield Megafauna Festival co-organiser Adam Bostanci will put forward the idea of a display celebrating Lancefield Park’s place as significant site of megafauna fossils.
‘‘A permanent exhibit would attract visitors and students alike,’’ he said.
Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) secretary Adam Fennessy encouraged residents to take part.
‘‘Regional communities are full of resources, leadership and generosity,’’ he said.
‘‘Outside the Square is an opportunity to come together to share ideas.’’
The event is at Lancefield Mechanics Institute from 2pm Sunday. Bookings essential. Details: www.makeachange.org.au
