The three ‘Rs’ hand out a netball lesson

The top three sides in the Riddell District Netball League all showed why they have been the standouts this season, with big wins on Saturday.

With only losses against each other in the season so far, Rupertswood, Romsey and Riddell all made sure they did enough against sides lower than them on the ladder.

Romsey, a surprise packet this season, defeated Broadford.

Leading at every break, the Kangaroos ensured the Redbacks didn’t get away from them for the first three quarters.

It took until the final quarter for the Redbacks to blow open the match, going on to win 32-21.

Katelyn Byron was best on court, while Hope Evans was influential in her return to the game after missing the past few weeks.

The Redbacks are third on the ladder with four wins and a loss, only percentage points behind Riddell.

They suffered their only loss against the Riddells Creek Bombers.

The Bombers returned to the winners’ list with a massive 56-26 goal win over Melton Centrals.

With their full line-up back on court, the Bombers extended the lead in every quarter, showing why they are again the premiership favourites.

Rebecca Colwell scored 23 goals for the Bombers, with Christine Harris and Ellen Close also scoring in double figures.

Defender Sarah King was best on court, while Cayley Armstrong provided plenty of run in the midcourt.

Rupertswood remains undefeated after beating Diggers Rest on Saturday.

With their full line-up to chose from, the Sharks rotated their players through to outrun the Burras. Leading all game, the Sharks saved their best to last scoring 20 goals in the final quarter to win 58-36.

Kirsten Daley, in her first game of the season, was best on court.

Alex Maher scored 23 goals for the winners, while Burras’ playing coach Amy Carroll was her side’s best scoring 24 goals.

Woodend-Hesket won its second game of the season with a strong 50-35 win over Sunbury Kangaroos.

Madeline Staresina was the best shooter, hitting 35 goals, the same as the Kangaroos as a team.

Defender Lisa Johnstone was named best on court.

Lancefield had a massive win in the other game, restricting Wallan to just 10 goals while landing 53 of its own.
