Vics go Madi at the ’G

Sunbury Lions’ Madison Prespakis starred for Vic Metro as it dominated the national youth girls championships last week.

Metro was undeniably the best side in its three pool A matches, winning them all by an average of 41 points.

But it saved its best for last, making the MCG its own in the grand final against Western Australia on Friday night.

The Victorians had already beaten WA by 44 points in a pool match, but they stepped it up another level in the grand final, dominating in the midfield and up forward, leaving the defenders little to do.

The ball spent most of the game in Metro’s forward half and the Vics made the most of their opportunities in front of goal.

The game was all but over after the first quarter, but Metro didn’t take their foot off the pedal in the 14.11 (95)-0.0 (0) trouncing.

Prespakis, 15, was one of the best for Metro in the grand final win. Playing mostly up forward, she looked dangerous around goal and kicked one goal in the process.

It capped off a good championships for Prespakis  who was named among the best players in the other two matches she played. She hit the scoreboard in both those games as well.

Prespakis missed the third round match as she and several other Metro stars were rested because a grand final place was all but secured.

Her performances had her named in the all-star squad to join a training camp and possibly play in a curtain-raiser to the Western Bulldogs-Melbourne women’s match later in the year.

It’s a second straight youth girls championship for the former Romsey junior footballer.
