Second Hand Saturday offers chance to declutter

Sunbury residents wanting get rid of old fridges, washing machines, televisions and computers are being given a helping hand as part of a free Hume council event.

Unwanted dryers, speakers, mobile phones and other household appliances can also be disposed of at the council’s McDougall Road depot as part of this weekend’s Second Hand Saturday.

Mayor Helen Patsikatheodorou said council workers will accept goods – and even mattressess and clothes – from 9am-4pm.

The council intends to recycle many of the items.

‘‘This is a really handy day,’’ Cr Patsikatheodorou says. ‘‘The long weekend offers the perfect chance to give the home a real tidy up.’’

Residents can dispose of up to 15 items.

The Sunbury depot is at 17-19 McDougall Road. Details: 9205 2200
